“Boredom is the only real tragedy for a writer. Heartbreak is merely material.”
— From the novel
Who says you cannot run away from your problems? Arthur Less is a minor American novelist about to turn fifty. When he receives a wedding invitation from his former boyfriend of nine years, he realizes he cannot attend without heartbreak, nor can he decline without appearing petty and defeated.
His comic solution: accept every obscure international literary invitation on his desk. What follows is a whimsical, poignant globe-trotting journey across Mexico, Italy, Germany, Morocco, India, and Japan. Along the way, Less stumbles through romantic mishaps, linguistic blunders, and unexpected self-discoveries.
