— From the novel
Irwin Maurice Fletcher, alias Fletch, is an investigative newspaper reporter who spends his days undercover among the beach bums of southern California. But when a wealthy aviation executive approaches him with an astonishing proposition—offering fifty thousand dollars for Fletch to murder him—the reporter knows he has stumbled onto the scoop of a lifetime.
Armed with sharp wit and a wardrobe of disguises, Fletch uncovers a convoluted web of blackmail, narcotics, and corporate deception before the contract can be fulfilled.
